It’s Saturday again, which means another post from my Swedish design mini-series. Today’s edition looks at the new packaging for Ikea’s food and drink range, which is predictably very minimal and swedish. Designed by Stockholm Design Lab, it features stripped back design, simple imagery and the usual Swedish product name.
The interesting thing about the packaging is that across all the products there are quite visible differences in design, such as the real life biscuit imagery compared to the cartoon-like hot dog on the mustard bottle. Although this is the case, there is great connection throughout the designs and they really do feel as though they are all part of the same range of products (which is good, because they are!).
My favourite design of the packaging range is the ‘Skarpsill’ tin, especially the way the pull ring doubles as the head of the fish. Stockholm Design Lab won a Cannes Gold Lion for the ‘Skarpsill’ design.
